After the popularity of the ‘read more books’ post, I thought I’d add a brief note about some of my favorite regular reads that, y’know, aren’t books. Maybe you’d like to explore one or more of them:
How to Read This Chart newsletter by Philip Bump, the Washington Post
Educational, helpful, and witty. I can never get enough of that combination.
Cover Story, a weekly newsletter from The Economist that explains the creative and editorial decisions that go into creating and choosing that week’s cover. The tradeoffs are often instructive, and it’s compelling to think about the stakes in designing the cover each week of such a respected publication.
The Monday Morning Meeting, a weekly roundup from Filament of innovative ideas, inspiration, and fodder for your thinking
Culture Study by Anne Helen Petersen — wonderful essays observing cultural phenomena
Your turn, in the comments. What are your favorite newsletters or blogs?
Happy new year, Kate. Some of my favorite substacks make my non-book reading list:
1. Work/Life/Craft
2. Brown History
3. Step into the Light
